Family and Society

Family is a group of people  affiliated either by consanguinity  (by recognized birth),  affinity (by marriage or any other relationship like siblings families etc.).  Family members include spouses, parents, brothers, sisters, sons and/or daughters. Members of the extended family may include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and/or siblings-in-law.
In most societies, the family is the principal institution for the socialization of the children.

A society is a  group of people involved in persistent social interaction , or a large social grouping  sharing the same geographical or social territory,  the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations. Societies are characterized by patterns of relationships (social relations) between individuals who share a distinctive culture and institutions.

Role of the family in the society

Although some cultural variance exists, the primary role of a family in society is to foster an environment where children learn skills, and values. Families provide initial socialization for children that shape their self-worth, attitudes, values and behaviors. Families create structure and stability in the lives of family members.

Children also learn about structure, rituals and routines in the family unit. Holiday traditions, family meals and weekend outings are among the traditions in which families often engage. A family also provides an environment family members learn about the rewards and consequences that come from following or disobeying formal and informal house rules.

Let´s see some curious thoughts about the meaning of the word family according to some people:
